A portrait of the artist's friend Nami and her son Nikkyou at an abstracted Rockaway Beach, painted to hold a kind of love and duty Li Chang had watched grow between them and rarely seen elsewhere, in life or on canvas.

Austin Li Chang is an oil painter of nebulous, emotional portraits and images of the everyday. Working from photographs, he balances close observation with memory, letting each image distort toward sensation. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and was most recently featured in New American Paintings' NOVA 1 publication.
