A finger painting, made to avoid brushwork and its sensations, of the artist's friend Luna applying sunblock at Jacob Riis beach.

Austin Li Chang is an oil painter of nebulous, emotional portraits and images of the everyday. Working from photographs, he balances close observation with memory, letting each image distort toward sensation. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and was most recently featured in New American Paintings' NOVA 1 publication.
