AUSTIN LI CHANG

Austin Li Chang is an oil painter living and working in Brooklyn, New York. His nebulous, emotional portraits and images of the everyday begin with photographs, which he balances against memory and close observation until the image distorts subtly, shifting the emphasis toward sensation.

Li Chang’s subjects are drawn from his own life, from friends and family to quiet moments in the studio, painted with an attention to light and shadow that holds feeling over likeness. He was most recently featured in New American Paintings’ NOVA 1 publication and has completed a residency in Orquevaux, France.
