Painted at the artist residency in Orquevaux, France, from a good harvest statue weathered in moss. Li Chang worked the way the moss grew, patch by patch, rather than thinking of the figure.

Austin Li Chang is an oil painter of nebulous, emotional portraits and images of the everyday. Working from photographs, he balances close observation with memory, letting each image distort toward sensation. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and was most recently featured in New American Paintings' NOVA 1 publication.
