A hunched, anthropomorphic figure with its jaw dislocated and removed, so the light pours out of the absence. Aji wanted a piece that is wounded, gruesome, and elegant at the same time, where the broken part of the body becomes the source of light. At five and a half feet, it stands in a room the way a figure would.

Joey Aji is a Brooklyn-based designer working between sculpture and furniture. His pieces start as digital models built from architectural fragments, domes, columns, corbels, and carved ornament, then get 3D printed and hand-finished in marble dust and mineral resins until the surface passes for stone. Syrian American and raised around Orthodox and Mediterranean architecture, he treats those forms as a language he can reshape by hand.
