The sling Bubble Chair suspends a leather seat within a rounded, hand-turned maple frame, hand-stitched in a cross-stitch that leaves the construction on view. One version is cut from a pale yellow cowhide Stechschulte sourced from Horween, the Chicago tannery, originally tanned for baseball mitts and chosen for its durability and its unexpected color. The frame comes in a natural water-based finish or a high-gloss lacquer, and the sling can be made in a range of hides and materials.

Anna Stechschulte for AFS.DSGN is a furniture designer and maker in Chicago. She works primarily in hardwood maple, shaped through turning and traditional joinery, and often begins with the materials themselves, collecting textiles and hides before a design takes form. Her influences range from Scandinavian furniture and alpine woodcraft to Italian design history, and her pieces are conceived as modern heirlooms, made to feel both unusual and familiar at once.
