A moon form built in a cream sculptural clay body with a wave-like texture. Cream terra sigillata lays the foundation for the painted symbols, waves, flowers, and birds on her surface. These are applied in French red clay, which fires to a rich burgundy, along with Australian beige clay, black terra sigillata, glaze pencil, gold glaze, and clear glaze.

Tania Whalen is a British ceramicist working in Brooklyn. She hand-builds every piece by pinch and coil, keeping to the raw integrity of the clay and the marks the process leaves behind, and spent eighteen years living in Japan before her practice began.
