A shell turned into a candelabra, three tapers rising off the back. Warshawsky works in terracotta under three layered glazes, speckled, flux, and crawl, that pull apart in the kiln and leave the surface pitted and beaded, closer to something dug up than something made.

Talia Warshawsky makes contemporary ceramics that look like they were dug up in ancient Mesopotamia. She trained in Mashiko, Japan, where the pottery taught her to step away from perfection, and she traces her heritage to Morocco, whose art and culture run through her work. Before clay she spent ten years designing textiles, which is where her love of texture comes from. She works in London, and every piece keeps the marks of her hand.
