Sasha Court
Sasha Court works from her studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where the highest tides in the world inspire her modern interpretation of moon jar forms. After studying mathematics and engineering at Dalhousie University, Court redirected her creative energy from a successful tech career to her ceramics practice, bringing analytical precision to organic expression.
Court exclusively hand-builds her vessels with stoneware using the coil building technique, working methodically from bottom to top. Her process is deeply intuitive, allowing each piece to develop its own personality and presence. She approaches the voluminous forms as canvases, applying experimental glaze techniques that embrace vibrant color combinations like butter yellow and red, textural elements, and floral-inspired motifs.
For Court, creating ceramics is a meditative practice that merges technical skill with spiritual consciousness. Her body of work showcases a diverse range of inspirations: some pieces pay homage to music that has shaped her artistic journey, while others emerge from her pursuit of imaginative freedom and revolt against self-defined constraints. Many works explore themes of hope and faith in humanity, while others represent her commitment to finding joy and play in the creative process.
