A sculptural ceramic vessel hand-built in Brooklyn using pinch and coil methods. The raw stoneware surface is left unglazed on the outside, with a white glazed interior. The form is full and round on top, supported by a much smaller base, the kind of contradiction Whalen is drawn to. "These objects are delicate yet gritty, full of soft movement yet balanced," she writes. "I love the contradictions and complexity, like women." Each piece begins with touch, emotion, and an inner dialogue with the clay.
