A stoneware mug with a carved scallop pattern and a reactive glaze in warm, sandy tones. The glaze reacts differently across the carved surface during firing, producing variations that draw from O'Donoghue's study of the ocean's textures and tide pool formations.

Kalya O'Donoghue is a Brooklyn-based ceramicist who breaks glaze compounds down to their chemical foundation, adjusting and rebuilding them to create unique surface treatments. After graduating from RISD's Industrial Design program, O'Donoghue worked in furniture and lighting before founding her chemistry-focused ceramic studio.
