A handleless stoneware cup with a carved scallop pattern and a reactive glaze in warm tones. The glaze breaks and pools across the carved surface in ways specific to each piece, drawn from O'Donoghue's ongoing study of the ocean and its surface textures.

Kalya O'Donoghue is a Brooklyn-based ceramicist who breaks glaze compounds down to their chemical foundation, adjusting and rebuilding them to create unique surface treatments. After graduating from RISD's Industrial Design program, O'Donoghue worked in furniture and lighting before founding her chemistry-focused ceramic studio.
