Designed in 1974 by Kazuhide Takahama for Simon Gavina, the Mantilla takes its name from the fabric mantles draped over furniture in Italian holiday homes during the long winter months.

A generous cream velvet sofa with a chenille texture, where the upholstery drapes over the frame like a protective covering rather than being pulled taut around it. The plywood base and polyurethane foam structure give it a low, grounded profile that reads both relaxed and formal. The velvet was reupholstered three years ago and has been gently used since.
