The Dark Night is built from reclaimed redwood, a softwood with a layered history. Logged nearly to decimation in the building booms of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it was prized for shrugging off weather and insects, which put it in the rooftop water tanks that still mark the New York skyline. Named for a gothic image of the city, the lamp carries those narratives, use and abuse, endurance and reinvention, ebonized dark under a turned ash knob. Also available in ebonized walnut.
 
Aaron Getman-Pickering is a woodworker, designer, and artist working from his studio in Kingston, New York. Headed for law school after an internship in the Obama White House, he was pulled off course by a carpentry job, then spent years training with furniture makers and artists including Martin Puryear, Christopher Kurtz, and Kieran Kinsella. He draws on forms as varied as Danish pipes, East African headrests, architectural ornament, and industrial objects, building one of a kind lighting and furniture piece by piece.
