Sierra Kanistanaux
Sierra Kanistanaux is a self-taught ceramic artist working from her studio in San Francisco. Her practice draws upon the many places she has called home, from the architectural elements of Europe and the Mediterranean to the natural forms of Montana and Northern California, creating pieces that evoke nature, mythology, ritual, and eternal symbols.
Kanistanaux's handbuilt statement pieces explore texture and pattern through ceramic and glaze techniques. Her work transforms collected inspirations like coastal shells and architectural details into forms with quiet grandeur and presence. Each piece contributes to a larger artistic narrative, spanning several distinctive series that together reflect her evolving vision. Whether creating works that appear unearthed from antiquity or pieces inspired by her deep connection to horses, she infuses her ceramics with both personal meaning and timeless symbolism. Through texture, pattern, and form, Kanistanaux aims to awaken the senses and elevate our experience of the spaces we inhabit, creating art that transcends the ordinary.
