Colby Byrd

Colby is the designer, creative director, and founder of Shelton Metal. He started his journey studying Architecture, Art, & Design at East Carolina University- then he began the journey that shaped his personal and professional life, studying throughout Italy under world renowned metalsmiths. After returning to the US in 2013, Colby started his own brand, Shelton Metal, offering custom & ready to wear jewelry. While still heavily inspired by travel, much of Shelton Metal designs are inspired by the depths of the sea yet mixed with nostalgic moments of growing up on the coast. Treasures that hold integrity, stories, and meaning to be passed on for generations. Using recycled or sustainably sourced metals, each piece is raw, organic, and handmade. Over 10 years focusing on custom jewelry- Colby returned to his roots in Italy with a collaboration collection that debuted during Milan Jewelry Week. This lead to more for Shelton Metal in the fashion world, giving a new luxe perspective to his brand.  “I hope to collaborate with brands that speak to me for where I am in each phase of life. To create well curated pieces of art that give back or push growth for everyone involved”.

In 2022, Colby expanded his collections into sculptural pieces for the home with what started as a passion project. The Home Collection has evolved into nostalgic details of mixed metals being hand carved & cast, with forged elements. These pieces celebrate attention to detail and purpose to each object. Over the past year the collection has consisted of cabinetry hardware, barware, charcuterie tools, dinnerware, and flatware. Yet, this is only the beginning, as Colby has a sea of inspiration and many stories to share from within his art.
