The Rook Vase is a sculptural ceramic vase by English ceramicist Talia Warshawsky. Inspired by Brutalist architecture and design, made by hand, The Rook Vase is made from grogged terracotta and bathed a checkered print resembling the game of chess.
Talia Nidam Warshawsky creates contemporary ceramics that look like they were uncovered in an archaeological dig in ancient Mesopotamia. They are influenced both by the wabi-sabi simplicity of the pottery made in Mashiko, the town in Japan where Warshawsky trained as a ceramicist, and the artwork and culture of Morocco, where she traces her heritage.
