Grandval is a sculptural ceramic vase by English ceramicist Talia James. Built and glazed by hand, Grandval was painted in a crawling glaze that pulls away and separates the vase's surface in the kiln's heat, forming glossy white beads. The stripes of white glaze juxtaposed with the roughness of the black clay gives each piece a wholly unique look and texture. Inspired by Brutalist architecture and design, James' Grandval is names after the French brutalist architect Gérard Grandval.

James is influenced by the Wabisabi simplicity of the pottery made in Mashiko, Japan, where James trained as a ceramicist, and the artwork and culture of Morocco, where she traces her heritage. James's ceramics celebrate both the surfaces of the natural world and marks left by her hand. This vase is not watertight and should only be used with dried florals.

Note: Slight variations in glaze and size will occur due to the hand-made nature

Material: black clay and crawling glaze

L 10" x W 10" x H 16"
