Grace is a hanging wall sculpture by Eileen Braun. This large-scale, elegant, cage-like sculpture can hang from the ceiling or on a wall. Grace began as a sketch with copious notes. After she had the form in mind, Braun chose the diameter of the rattan reed size and soaked it in water for 24-48 hours until swelled and pliable. Next, the reed was shaped into place, braced with clamps, and set to dry and shrink into place. The resulting form was lashed with cotton string with a classic Japanese knot at every joint, trimmed, treated with adhesive, and set to dry. Finally, the work was enrobed in molten encaustic wax to create the finished sculpture.
