Coral Vessel VII by artist Eileen Braun. This vessel was wheel thrown with fine white porcelain clay. After forming, Braun delicately carved the piece with her custom carving tool. Next, she stippled the intended openings with lacquered chopsticks and used a syringe to drop tiny porcelain slip dots onto the surface. The entire vessel was then sheathed in a light application of clear glaze to give it a sparkly finish. Braun's work is high fired multiple times in her home studio. Braun is known for her biomorphic forms and draws inspiration from natural phenomena, such as deep-sea coral, mermaid's purses (pouches where sharks lay their eggs), gourds, and even peanuts.
