LAUREN SANDS
Lauren Sands is the founder of LES Collection, and she is also a contemporary artist whose primary medium is painting.
Sands is driven to create a visual experience in which her paintings are just one aspect of a larger design story. Intended to be paired together with sculpture, furniture, photography and other forms of art to create a cohesive and multi-layered aesthetic, the paintings are informed by abstract sculpture, the human form and the ways that negative spaces can be combined with simple shapes to create multifaceted images. In their execution, Sands’ work is redolent of monochrome works by Robert Motherwell, collages by Kara Walker, and black-and-white portraits by Irving Penn.
Sands is deeply influenced by art history, as well as by her relationships with artists worldwide across multiple disciplines. Through her gallery, she will make art and design more approachable, creating a discourse around the act of creation. Through her digital storytelling and exhibitions, Sands will put the work into context from a styled perspective to educate consumers about art and design. The gallery will be accessible through @LES.Collection and lescollection.com.
Sands and her family are based in Brooklyn.
