ASTRID DE SAINT ANTHOST
Each one of Astrid Anthost’s designs starts with a technique — for example, applying gold leaf to Belgian linen using clear silicone adhesive— and evolves from there. Raised in Paris, Anthost, who works under the moniker Le Studio Anthost, learned the craft of textile design at Atelier Dynale, a studio that creates haute couture fabrics for designers such as Dior, Givenchy and Christian Lacroix. In 1997, Anthost moved to New York, where she began creating textiles for the city’s most prominent fashion designers including Oscar De La Renta, Carolina Herrera and Vera Wang. In 2017, Anthost, a devoted student of architecture and interior design, launched her first home collection. Her fabrics, which utilize unusual techniques such as applying paint to natural linen with a knife, are used to create pillows, throws and upholstery. Anthost releases her own collections, as well as collaborates with interior designers Cullman & Kravis, and furniture dealer Pascal Boyer. Inspirations range from camellia flowers to the architecture of William Burns. Ultimately, Asnthost is driven by a desire to create things with her hands. “I have loved working with my hands as long as I can remember,” she says. “It is just part of my soul.”
